Five Years

Friday, July 12th was our five-year anniversary! And the weather was just like it was when we got hitched in 2008, HOT! Since we both had to work, we had planned to celebrate on Saturday instead. We wavered back and forth about going away for the weekend since our original plan that we made on our honeymoon (to go back to Maui for our 5-year anniversary) wasn't going to work out with a baby, but decided in the end to just do something for the evening. It would have been nice to book a hotel room even just in Seattle to get to play tourists for the weekend but I didn't feel comfortable leaving Luke overnight with my parents yet.

So we made dinner reservations at McCormick and Schmick's on Lake Union and I suggested we go up in the Space Needle too since neither of had ever been! The boys got to hang out at Grandma and Grandpa's for the evening. We had an amazing dinner, started with appetizers of crab cakes and bacon and pepperjack-wrapped shrimp (do die for) and Joe had steak for dinner and I had salmon. It was nice to enjoy adult conversation and drinks! So we wouldn't have to deal with parking, we decided to take a cab over to the Space Needle. While we waited for one, we sat in the bar for another drink since we wouldn't have to be driving. When the first cab failed to show, we went back to the bar for another drink! It was so beautiful out, a cool drink was perfect.

I was so excited to be going up in the Needle, having been born and raised in the Seattle area and have never been up! It was a gorgeous night with an amazing view though a little chilly up on top with the wind.

When it started to get late, we headed back to pick up Luke (Dylan had originally planned to stay the night) and found my parents, the boys, my sister and her boyfriend and my aunt and her friend all enjoying a backyard campfire! We stayed for a bit to enjoy the fire as well and convinced Dylan to come home with us since I had another function the next evening and it would be a lot of driving to go back down and pick him back up again before heading to my friend's house.

Even though it was a short evening, we had fun not having to cook, enjoying some adult refreshments and seeing a Seattle landmark. Maybe next year we'll get to celebrate in Hawaii like we'd planned!

Kind of a funny story about these flowers. In the past, Joe's had horrible luck trying to order and have flowers delivered. They always sent the wrong bouquet, come the wrong day or just were a hassle. So he's been forgoing having them sent and just picking up a bouquet from Haggen when needed. For our anniversary, he thought he'd surprise me by sending flowers to my office. He went with a local florist instead of the big-name companies he's had so many problems with and was excited to pull off a surprise since we discussed not getting each other anything. Well, my schedule that day at work fell apart so I re-scheduled my last patient of the day and decided to take off early, pick up Dylan from daycare and take him to a movie. On my way home, I called Joe and he kind of panicked and said, "You can't leave yet!" I was really confused until he revealed that he was having flowers delivered! So I ruined the surprise...and had to stop by the florist on the way home to pick up my gorgeous bouquet. So again, back luck for Joe. But at least he knows the company he went through is reliable and he can plan to use them in the future if needed!
