Another year and another trip to Sunriver! This year's trip was delayed a day due to my cousin's wedding on Saturday. So we were up and out early Sunday! We had packed the car up during the day on Saturday prior to going to the wedding so we were all prepped to head out the next morning.

We left the house just after 7am and made our first stop for a bathroom break just outside of Yakima. We decided to try a new route this year to avoid I-5 and all the construction and traffic we'd experienced in the past. I-90 was a breeze and we made it over the bridge at Biggs Junction and into Oregon at 11:30 where we stopped for gas. We arrived in Madras for lunch at Subway and beat the rest of the group that traveled via I-5! This year we also had another change in that Joe's mom and Pat moved to Redmond, Or from Portland so we would be staying with them Sunday night for a quick visit. We arrived at their new house a little after 2pm. It was Joe's mom's birthday so after unpacking what we needed for the night and getting a tour of the house, we chilled out before going out to dinner at a local pizza place to celebrate. After ice cream cake for dessert, we watched The BFG before heading to bed.

Monday AM we were all antsy to get on our way to Sunriver! We left Mary and Pat's at 10:30 and made a stop in Bend at Fred Meyer for groceries. Our rental cabin wouldn't be available until about 4:30 but I called and they said I could come pick up the pool passes. So we did just that and then stopped at my parent's rental house to store some groceries, get changed and then I took my Dad and the boys to the pool! It was my Mom's birthday so she was glad to have us join her at the pool. We stayed for a bit and just as we were packing up to head back, the rental company called to say our cabin was ready for check-in (3:15pm). So on the way back, we stopped to get the cabin keys and dropped my Dad off and picked Joe up and went to our cabin! This was the 2nd time we'd rented Cluster Cabin #13 so we were familiar with it and were able to un-pack and get settled quickly!
We had an amazing dinner of flank steak, fettuccine alfredo and veggies for dinner to celebrate my Mom's birthday and ice cream sundaes for dessert! After a short bike ride (I opted out), we played a few rounds of Mexican train before heading back to our cabin for the night.

Our first full day in Sunriver, Joe headed out early to go golfing. The goal was to get up, eat, get packed and out the door to be at the pool when it opened at 10am. Luke had other plans and decided to be a royal pain-in-the-ass and made that goal unattainable. To top it off, I couldn't find my house key and had to search the cabin top to bottom to try to find it, and still didn't. So I had to leave it unlocked and hope Joe would be back soon and could lock up. The kids enjoyed the pool and were well-behaved until right after lunch when the heat and activity got to them. Dylan got mouthy and I decided it was time to head home, just as Joe had arrived there after golfing. We basically had to drag the boys (Luke got upset at having to leave too) out of there and both kids cried and screamed the entire drive back to the cabin. Joy. We figured that both boys were likely super tired, hot and a little dehydrated and lesson learned that they needed to drink more water, take more breaks from swimming and maybe not spend so long at the pool. It's tough though when they both love swimming so much!
We went on a long, 9 mile bike ride after dinner to the river and horse stables. We saw porcupines up in a tree and one was a baby and the cutest thing!
