The Fair!

One of the things I always look forward to during the summer (and kind of what signals the end of it) is going to the fair. We went every summer growing up and have continued that tradition now with the boys. And it's even closer now that we live just about 15 minutes away from it!

We've gone with my parents the past few years and they like to go on the Senior day when they get in for free. So that meant we went on Senior Day, Monday.

Joe got home from work at 3 and we were there by 3:45. First up was the chickens, bunnies, guinea pigs. It was a sweltering 90 degrees and we were all hot and sweaty within minutes. So after checking out the cows, we got ice cream and milkshakes before heading to the kid rides. Dylan is pretty much over the kids rides but we weren't really wanting to take him by himself to the big rides while Luke did the little kid rides so we promised him that next year he could do the big rides and this would be his last year (since neither one of us wanted to go on the big rides with him yet). My parents joined us while the boys were doing rides.

Dylan was so not interested in the kiddie rides...

But he was a good sport about it

It was close to dinnertime then, and the boys were fading fast in the heat. So we gave them a snack and went through the animal barns and then found a table in the shade to rest and get dinner. The boys had hot dogs and corn dogs, Joe got a Philly Cheesesteak and I shared curly fries and a slice of pizza my mom got. We walked through the Grand Stand and then the boys rode the ponies.

We continued to walk around and went through the other buildings and my Mom and I went through the craft and art buildings (Joe calls them the "needlepoint and doilies" buildings) while the guys bought Elephant ears for dessert.

Dylan was still feeling bummed about not going on the big rides and Luke wanted to look at more animals (even though we had already seen them all...) so Joe took Dylan to do the water balls (where you get in the big inflated hamster ball and run around on top of the water pool) while my parents, Luke and I went through some of the animal barns. It was after 8pm by then and we were ready to head home after a day in the intense heat.

Another year at the fair complete!
